Today I got a ride out to this place outside of town offering dirt cheap nuts and bolts and various steel. I was like a kid in a candy store. "Hmm, I want some of these! Maybe a some of these just in case... Ehh, just a few more." The best score was some flat steel which I'll be welding with some angle steel to make a workbench for doing other welding at (I've got some cinderblocks, which I'll put on top, to protect the steel bench from the steel-cutting device). It seems like it'll be good practice for me, before I get started on making the funbike.
So excited. If only the weather wasn't sucking so much at the moment. Plans are being made for building a shelter in the back patio area for doing this stuff in nasty weather, but that's going to be a chunk of work (getting wood, getting roofing, getting brackets, pouring cement, then nailing the mess together).
I'm very glad I've decided to stay in Portland, in a house where I've got space to do this sort of stuff.
